You are invited
to share your projects, research and presentations with the
audience at the 2nd Connecticut Conference on Natural Resources. The
conference is organized around multi-disciplinary themes that
represent current natural resource/environmental issues facing
Connecticut. Please review the themes and consider how
your presentation fits when submitting an abstract.
Presentations are called for in the following themes:
Theme 1. Conservation at the Community Level
Examples of community-based planning and decision making, empowering communities to conserve habitats and resources, conservation/environmental coalitions, Community-level water allocation, build-out and open space planning at the local/regional level, role of land trusts in Connecticut
Theme 2. “Green” and “sustainable” environmental engineering and management
Low-impact development, sustainable use vs. growth, water use and re-use, alternative energy, green building, limiting impervious surfaces, detention basin and raingarden design and implementation, role of landowners
Theme 3. Natural resource inventories and classifications of ecosystems
Natural area identification, ecosystem refinements, corridors for large mammals, mapping habitat suitability for species of greatest conservation need, potential need for common spatial databases and information, status of Connecticut’s Comprehensive Wildlife Conservation Strategies, Status of Long Lsland Sound ecosystem.
Theme 4. Urban natural resources management: opportunities and challenges
Urban fishing programs, diadromous fisheries restoration along an urbanized coast, wildife damage control in urban areas, hunting in suburban and exurban landscapes, greenspace management and policy, urban forestry, challenges for biota facing sprawl and fragmentation
Theme 5. Preparing for a changing climate
Sea level rise effects, droughts in Connecticut, changes in surface and groundwater availability, power demand during warmer seasons, changes in species distributions, no-analog biological communities, ecological surprises faced in a new climate regime, invasive species and new pests
You may submit for one of the following formats:
- A 20 minute presentation which will be scheduled with related
presentations in the same theme
- A poster display
- A 1.5 hour workshop or activity that features audience
participation
Abstracts are restricted to 250 words and must be emailed

In the subject line
of the email please write: “CCNR
Abstract Submission”
In the body of the email include in this order:
- Presenter’s
name and affiliation
- Presenter’s
address, phone, and email
- Co-authors and affiliations as needed
- Presentation title (60 character limit, including spaces)
- Indicate preference for a 20 min presentation, poster display,
or 1.5 hour workshop
- 250 word abstract
- Indicate the theme most appropriate for this presentation
