The banquet will be held in the Student Union ballroom at 6:00pm following the poster session/cocktail hour and is scheduled to end at 8:00pm.

Tom Andersen
author of   "This Fine Piece of Water: An Environmental History of Long Island Sound"

Tom Andersen works as projects director for Westchester Land Trust in Bedford Hills, N.Y. His book, “This Fine Piece of Water: An Environmental History of Long Island Sound,” was published in May 2002 by Yale University Press (and was released in paperback in 2004). He blogs daily about the Sound and other issues at

Newsday called “This Fine Piece of Water” “a compelling narrative.” New York History, the journal of the New York State Historical Society, described it as “a superb example of environmental journalism. Thoroughly researched and elegantly written, it recounts a contemporary saga with nuance and high drama.”

Tom covered environmental issues as a reporter in Westchester County for 17 years. His reporting earned awards from the Hudson Riverkeeper, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, SoundWatch, Federated Conservationists of Westchester County, the Associated Press and the New York State Publishers Association. He lives in Pound Ridge, N.Y.
